Marble Falls: There’s plenty of shopping and
dining along historical Main Street. Local Retailers
sell antiques, fine and folk art, home furnishings and
accessories, jewelry, and clothing. Marble Falls hosts
rodeos, drag-boat races, firework shows, water skiing
competitions, and chili cook-offs. Tours of Texas’
largest granite quarry and Longhorn Caverns are minutes
away. Beautiful, public golf courses are also
conveniently located nearby. Several Hill Country
wineries are located between Marble Falls and
Fredericksburg. These wineries are open daily for
private and group tours.
Johnson City: It is located a short drive
South of Base Camp, along scenic highway 281. There are
many sights to enjoy here, including the LJB Ranch and
LBJ State Park, Pedernales Falls State Park, and various
shopping and dining spots.
Fredericksburg: Historic Fredericksburg is
the shopping and dining mecca of The Hill Country. This
town, settled by German immigrants, is known for
authentic German food and beer as well as upscale
shopping. Especially noteworthy are the many antique
stores that feature local furniture and accessories of a
by-gone era. Located just East of town is Enchanted Rock
State Park. The park is a favorite spot for hiking and
camping, and is also one of the best rock-climbing
venues in the U.S.A.
Austin: The state capitol is also known as
the “Live Music Capital of the World.” It is a short
40-minute drive from Base Camp along a narrow, scenic,
winding road. Visitors can dine on any type of cuisine,
visit the capitol and legislative buildings, tour the
LBJ Presidential Library, shop until you drop, and check
out the live, local talent scene along famous Sixth
Street –the Austin equivalent of New Orleans’ Bourbon
Street.
